The separate backrest is a structural detail

On the original design, the backrest and armrest elements are made separately from the base and secured from below. Embedded screw holes and dedicated hardware allow the upholstered elements to be removed. This is important for a genuinely removable cover and for keeping the curved shape accurate.

A high-quality China-made version should use the same assembly logic. The backrest needs accurate mounting points, a clean groove for the cover return, and a retaining strip that hides staples and keeps the lower edge neat. Ask the supplier to list every seat layer rather than writing only ‘high-density foam.’ In the option we reviewed, the proposed build combined a high-density support layer, a cushioning transition layer, and a slow-rebound top layer. Any feather, fiber, or gel-memory layer should be written into the order because suppliers use different combinations.
